The Arosa ski resort is situated in the Schanfigg Valley of Grisons in eastern Switzerland. A slightly less well known (for now) region than the more popular St. Moritz, Arosa has a long history, and is guaranteed to provide you with a truly authentic Swiss ski experience.

The Valsana Hotel, a relatively new addition to the town, pays homage to this history while also providing a truly modern new landing place for visitors. The natural rustic interiors play as a nice contrast to the imposing, sleek exterior. The building is striking against the picturesque mountain scenery, with lots of inspiration from botanical elements with an industrial edge. It is a very modern take on a mountain chalet.

For visitors interested in sustainability and wellness, Valsana is a great option as they have designed this hotel with both in mind. From the materials used to construct the building to the way it operates on a day to day basis, the hotel is doing all that it can to minimize its footprint. This extends to the restaurant and food served on-site, which is sourced locally whenever possible, with health in mind. The Restaurant Twist serves up healthy regional cuisine in a relaxed environment.

Valsana offers a wide variety of different rooms, from simple double rooms, to suites, and full on apartments you have many choices. All of the apartments come with a full kitchenette, a rainforest shower, fireplace, and a south-facing balcony with mountain views.

The journey to get the town is relatively simple and aided by the wonderful train system in Switzerland. After flying into Zurich, you can take a majestic train ride through the countryside of Switzerland, passing by Lake Zurich before heading up into the mountains. Once you arrive in town, the hotel will provide you with a shuttle to get you the rest of the way.

Arosa is one of the smaller ski resorts in the region, but the skiing is solid, there’s rarely a cloudy day, and its size makes it a very manageable mountain to navigate. There are tons of runs for all different skill levels, and you’ll find it’s a bit more of a local crowd than some of the other larger resorts nearby. Arosa is almost too good to be true.
